LET THE PHOTOGRAPH OF THOSE CLOSEST TO US FILL OUR WALLS, OUR ALBUMS, OUR LIVES AGAIN.

WET PLATE PHOTOGRAPHY ON GLASS

Visit us and together we will create your portrait on a glass plate using the wet-plate process from 1851. Take an hour for yourself and experience something unique, discover the beauty of early photography and immortalise a moment you'll be proud to hang on your wall.
What is wet plate photography on glass?
The wet process on glass was developed in 1851 by the Englishman Frederick Scott Archer, who improved on daguerreotype and calotype by using glass as the basic medium, opening the door to high-quality reproductions on paper. The wet collodion process is very difficult and is called wet because the plate we prepare is sensitive to light until it dries. This means that the darkroom needs to be close by for the photo to be taken, as the whole process from start to finish needs to take place in less than half an hour.
How much does portering cost for an individual or group?
The price of a portrait session depends on a number of parameters. The price is influenced by the choice of the size of the plate, the factor of individual or group portraits, additional framing services, ordering single or multiple photos, etc.

The glass sizes and basic prices for the invidual portrait are as follows:
13x18 cm 60€
18x24cm 100€
24x30cm 200€
30x40cm €500
(minimum order size €150)

Notes:
- framing price depends on the size of the photo: 20-50€
- framing is free for orders over 250€
What is included in the price?
At the end of the portrait session you will receive:
- a photo on a glass plate
- the possibility of framing your photo with us
- high-resolution digital reproduction of the photograph
Where does the portrait session take place?
Wetsuit portrait sessions take place in our studio in the centre of Ljubljana, but we are also available for field portrait sessions by appointment.
How long does it take to make a wet-plate portrait?
The magic of the wet process is also its contemplative and slow nature. To create a single photograph, we need to prepare the glass, pour the emulsion and arrange everything necessary for the portrait, which means that the whole process of creating a single photograph can take up to 15 minutes. That's why we ask you to take at least an hour to visit our studio, so that you can take in all the highlights in a relaxed way and receive a photo you'll be proud of.
How to frame the final product on glass?
It is not difficult to frame the final photo on the glass, as the protective glass of the frame can easily be replaced by the photo on the glass. However, as the specificity of glass photography is also about the best possible presentation, it is also possible to order framing alongside the portrait - so you receive a ready-to-hang product without having to bother with the details.
Do I have to register separately for the portrait session?
The wet-colodion process captures people in their most peaceful and alert state, so we always suggest keeping make-up and prints on clothing to a minimum. The different textures on the clothes (linen, embroidery, lace, pleats...) work very well, but otherwise the point of portraiture is to capture your image in the best and most honest light. You'll be relaxed in an hour and you'll have a beautiful photo, so don't worry, we're not in a hurry and you can be calmer with that assumption.
Are children welcome?
Children are always welcome, as seeing the wooden bellows cameras and brass lenses is a real surprise for grown-ups, and for curious children in general. They will see how a photograph is made, we will visit the darkroom together, they will be able to experience for themselves what a reversed image looks like through a large format camera, it is definitely an experience for young and old alike. Puppies and other animals that you have as family members are also welcome.

LARGE-FORMAT PORTING FOR THE MOST DEMANDING CLIENTS

LARGE-FORMAT PORTRAITURE

Large-format analogue film photography provides exceptional aesthetic value for your portrait, as analogue processes perceive our details in a different way, using outstanding professional lenses to achieve different effects to realise your wishes.

1

Large-format film photography can achieve resolutions that even the most expensive and best digital cameras cannot. If you need a photo with more than 200 megapixels, allowing for huge zooms and manipulations, large-format photography is the only way to go.

2

Using different types of film can achieve different effects, as each film perceives colour, contrast, micro-details, grain in its own way. That way, we can truly tailor the final product to your wishes and realise your vision of the perfect portrait.

3

Many art photographers rely on large-format film for their work because, in addition to its technical capabilities, it allows them to have full control over the composition with cameras that have the ability to shift perspectives.

4

A large-format photograph can be scanned and this is the final result, or it can be printed in the darkroom using a variety of printing techniques, from the use of an enlarger to contact printing, which is the most exclusive option for producing the final product.
