OUR VISION

Lux Pictura - Institute of Photography Research is a center for analogue photography and alternative photographic processes in the center of Ljubljana, where we encourage research activities in the field of photography and offer a wide range of professional services for professional and amateur photographers, curators, educators, printers, historians and all others who wish to practice and research photography at the highest level of performance. We weave links between contemporary and traditional practices through our interdisciplinary work, using the best tools to meet and exceed expectations, so contact us and together we will create something extraordinary.

WET-PLATE COLODION PORTRAITS

Photography studio focusing on wet-plate portraiture on glass up to 30x40cm and analogue portraiture on medium or large format.

HIGH-RESOLUTION SCANNING

Reproduction studio with Heidelberg Tango drum scanner and Screen Dainippon SG8060P Mark II and Scitex 342L flatbed scanners.

DEVELOPING FILM AND PHOTOS

Developing B&W, C41 and E6 film in all formats (110, 135, 120) and also developing large format film up to 8x10".

REPAIR OF PHOTOGRAPHIC EQUIPMENT

Trust us with the repair of analogue cameras and other photographic equipment to make your personal or professional projects run smoothly and hassle-free.

RENTAL OF STUDIO AND EQUIPMENT

If you'd like to do your project with us, we have a fully equipped darkroom and photographic studio, and we also rent a wide range of medium- and large-format equipment.

PRACTICAL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS

Almost two centuries of photography have developed a myriad of processes that can be revived and used today in combination with modern techniques.

OUR RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

Research is at the heart of our Institute, as we believe that by collecting photographic material, researching the history of early Slovenian photography, giving lectures and practical workshops on the subject of antique photographic processes, we can combine the past with the present and thus enable artists, scientists and enthusiasts to get in touch with the history of photography on both a practical and theoretical level.

By collecting, preserving and digitizing the material of Slovenian photographers of the 19th century. For centuries, we have been building a repository for a wide range of sociological, economic, ethnographic and ethnic research, because photography is the best way to get in touch with our common past.

Through workshops on alternative photographic processes, the revival and preservation of darkroom techniques and the development of analogue film, it stands alongside the popularization of analogue photography and the implementation of antique processes in contemporary artistic practices.

Through our journalistic activity, we try to give young artists the opportunity to publish their own monographs, which, combined with our program of professional material on photography, forms the core of our work, where we want to take the perception of photography in our country to a higher level.

By organizing lectures and an upcoming photography festival, we want to bring together all our knowledge, contacts and common love for photography.
